The Temper Trap

I know this blog is supposed to be about fashion, but i did say that it would also be about stuff that matters. Right now, I’d like to talk about my second passion, music. To me, music matters. Like fashion, music is not simply the noise you are listening to, it’s in the streets, it verbalises the collective consciousness that is happening in society, politically, emotionally and societally,

Every once in a while a band will speak to your heart. This is what I’ve found in The Temper Trap. Their second self titled album lives up the to the expectations of the critics after their award winning first album, in my opinion, it exceeds  expectations.

The Temper Trap is not pop, so to speak, you don’t listen to one song once and love it. It takes two or three listens to really get the meaning, and understand the feelings the song is trying to convey.  In my experience, the most amazing people in my life have been earned this way, and I like to think its the same with bands. The best ones aren’t catering to your needs, they wait for you to cater to them, to spend the time to get to know what they stand for and what their about.  The best music communicates feelings. The Temper Trap do this with conviction.

‘So throw me a line, somebody out there help me, I’m on my own’. Just a few lines from their hit single Trembling Hands from their second self titled album. Its heart wrenching, soulful, open, and uninhibited when it comes to feelings and emotions. Even if you’re not experiencing the feelings they’re singing about right now,  if you’ve ever felt the pangs of heartbreak, if you’ve ever felt deserted, alone, lonely – the songs on this album speak these feelings, like a journal you’ve been keeping, come to life.  You’ll find yourself relating, and even reliving, those feelings you’d long forgotten.

Thats the magic of the temper trap’s lead singer, Dougy Mandagi. It’s the conviction in his voice. There is something about his execution that conveys the emotions and the depth of the lyrics which resonates in your soul.

Truly  Amazing. For anyone who appreciates the kind of music that will speak to your heart and awaken your soul, check it out, The Temper Trap.

Nail polish, it makes the world go round!

Forgive me fellow bloggers I have been remiss! I have been busy working on some creative projects, which i’m sure you will hear about on here shortly.   Today, however I  wanted to share with you a simple revelation I discovered today.

Last week I was quite sick, I spent a very boring weekend at home alone mostly, and the weather here the last few days has been nothing but miserable. All of these things have affected my mood and I’ve been feeling less than upbeat over the last week.  Today, while I was sitting at my desk doing work that generally does the oppposite of bringing a smile to my face, I decided I was going to do something today to cheer myself up. I decided to head to the nail salon on my lunch break to get my nails painted.

I underestimated the effect this would have on me!  Who would have thought a $12 file and polish would put a smile on my face.  But it had the desired affect and now everytime I glance down at at the bright, burnt orange on my nails, it brightens up my day and lifts my mood.  This colour is called “A role in the Hague” by OPI.

Such a simple little thing, and I feel like my day has been turned around. With this effect, everyone should have colours on their nails! the world would be a brighter, happier place!  OPI have a great range of bright, eye catching colours, with great colour names like “who needs a prince” pale pink, “My chihuaha bites”, bright orange, “You’re such a Kabooki Queen” coral, who could resist?

Yep, Nail polish, it makes the world go round 🙂

Let’s Go Sailing!

I fell in love with the nautical look this winter. It reminds me of Summer and the Ocean. Some of my most favourite things in the world.

Maybe I’m just already looking forward to Summer coming, like I always do in Winter and maybe I’m also a bit in denial when Winter rocks around that I hold onto things that remind me of Summer.

It’s a vicious cycle every year really. I just love Summer so much here! Mind you, our winters are very beautiful and I even went Stand Up Paddle Boarding (supping)  last weekend and the water was amazingly fresh and clear! And now I’m just dreaming of Summer as I look out at the ocean and I’m totally diverting from what I really wanted to talk about – Nautical!

So, I love navy & white stripes and red together. And when I found these jeans I knew this was the moment I could finally make this look work! So it began. I needed striped tops badly and since then have bought 5 tops in some sort of stripe in the last 2 months. It’s becoming borderline obsessive. But I figure I will get great wear out of them come Summer with my tangerine maxi skirt (yes that colour works too), my white linen pants and I may just have to whip up a cute knee-length red skirt too!

And these are my quirky butterfly shoes straight from New York, which I know have nothing to do with Nautical, but hey, they’re awesome! I will always be fond of these shoes.

And they go effortlessly with my red jeans! What do you think?

I have been trying to find a good pair of nude heels to complete the look, but alas, when you’re looking for something in particular it’s nowhere to be seen!

I will keep you updated on my epic search for the infamous nude heels…
